Kyrgyzstan

Amina Satar is a filmmaker from Kyrgyzstan.

Growing up between cultures, spending 16 years in Russia before returning to her ethnic homeland, Kyrgyzstan, Amina developed a deep sensitivity to identity, place, and personal history. This multicultural upbringing shaped her interest in storytelling as a way of understanding people, memory, and belonging.

She began working with film edits before entering university, developing an early sensitivity to rhythm, mood, and visual storytelling. She later earned a BA in Visual Arts & Film in Hong Kong, where she gradually moved from editing to working behind the camera and making her own films.

Her practice focuses on people and lived experience, exploring themes of identity, womanhood, life, love, displacement, and the quiet intersections between inner and outer worlds. Amina is particularly drawn to documentary forms and poetic narratives that blur the line between the seen and the felt.

Through her work, she seeks to capture fragments of life as they unfold, creating intimate portraits that reflect both individual stories and broader social realities. She currently works across film, visual storytelling, and creative projects, often moving between different countries and cultural contexts.
