Mohammad Shahjalal

Traditional potter Muhammad Shahjalal practices his artisan craft in Bauphal, Patuakhali, Bangladesh. He belongs to a long line of traditional potters who have maintained this centuries-long craft throughout generations. He follows his family tradition by focusing on making clay sculptures manually and on the wheel while developing decorative and functional items through traditional processes from natural resources. Through his work he displays cultural value and personal devotion which presents the glorious rural craft traditions of Bengal. Shahjalal devotes his time and enthusiasm to maintaining and advancing pottery traditions within his community while gaining experience through numerous years of work.
