Rathna began his journey as a traditional costume designer in Sri Lanka, driven by a deep love for heritage and craftsmanship. From a young age, he was captivated by the intricate beauty of traditional attire, especially the regal elegance of the Udarata Nilame costume.

With no formal training, Rathna taught himself the delicate process of crafting these ceremonial outfits—starting with stiff fabric, layering velvet, and hand-stitching sacred patterns that carried cultural and spiritual significance. His dedication and attention to detail soon earned him recognition as one of the most skilled artisans in the field.

Over the years, Rathna developed his own design language, rooted in traditional symbolism yet refined through personal experience and experimentation. His creations have adorned cultural leaders and ceremonial figures across the country, becoming a visual representation of Sri Lankan identity.

Today, Rathna continues to innovate while preserving the legacy of traditional craftsmanship. Under the name Ratna Costume, he works to share this art with future generations, blending heritage, devotion, and creativity into every piece he makes.
