Heirs of the Charanda

Heirs of the Charanda

Join us for a visually rich short film directed by José Antonio Campos Argoti, exploring the vibrant and deeply rooted Charanda Festival celebrated in Empedrado, a small town in northeastern Argentina. This unique cultural event honors King Saint Baltazar, blending Afro-descendant traditions, Catholic iconography, and indigenous ritual into a living expression of community identity, resilience, and joy. Held each January, the Charanda Festival features masked dances, drumming, fire rituals, and processions that blur the lines between the sacred and the celebratory.
