I Weave. I am. – The Master Weavers of the Arhuaco Tribe
I Weave. I am. – The Master Weavers of the Arhuaco Tribe
This short film by Nico Socadagui offers an intimate look at the Arhuaco people of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, Colombia — an Indigenous community deeply rooted in ancestral knowledge, spiritual connection to nature, and sacred weaving traditions.
Using locally sourced, all-natural materials like sheep’s wool and plant dyes, Arhuaco weavers — many of them women — craft bags (mochilas) that carry not only practical use, but deep symbolic meaning. Each stitch tells a story of cosmic balance, cultural identity, and respect for the Earth.
“I Weave. I Am.” is a visual meditation on the act of weaving as a form of prayer, philosophy, and preservation — a timeless thread connecting past, present, and future.
